Choosing the Right Digital Camera

without comments

One of the biggest secrets in digital photography is choosing the right camera for you to use. To do this you need to look at what you want from a camera and what sort of pictures you will mainly be taking. This will eventually decide the best sort of camera you should get. There is no use buying a very expensive digital SLR camera just for holiday snaps and nights out you will find this type of camera takes up far too much room and is too bulky to carry around with you all the time, you would be more suited to the smaller compact digital camera’s which are available. As for nights out the taking of camera’s for parties and nights on the town are almost obsolete with the new modern cell phones which nearly all have camera’s built into them and will take good pictures when you are out having fun. They have however put paid to carrying a separate camera in certain circumstances such as partying and nights out.

There are occasions when you will still want a separate camera but which sort is the best for you? If you only want to take general pictures such as holiday photos, pictures of special events such as weddings, fun days out and general use then the best option would be one of the new styled compact cameras which take all of the technical aspects away from you and have general settings such as sports for taking pictures of moving objects, scenic which will give you wide angle, portrait which allows you to focus closer up on people or objects and lots of other settings depending on the complexity of the camera. Most of these compacts have a built in zoom and give very good results for the general photographer. These compact digital cameras range in both price and what the camera will do and how good the photographs will be will depend on the amount of pixels which the camera has for instance a 12 million pixel camera will take much better pictures than a 6 million pixel camera.

If however you are keen on photography and would like to take professional standard photographs with the ability of taking both short and long ranged shots with different types of exposures and effects then a compact digital camera will probably not be good enough for all your requirements. This is where you stray into the area of the digital SLR camera which has lots of different settings and the ability to change the lenses over for various different tasks. The main problem with the digital SLR camera is they are quite bulky especially if you are also carrying the different lenses, filters, spare batteries and everything you want for taking professional photographs. The other problem with them is they are much more complicated than the compact which does everything for you, although they have automatic settings there are many more of them and you can also turn these off and manually do the job for different effects. Digital SLR cameras are also much more expensive than the compact digital camera.

So depending on how much you want to spend on your digital camera and what you want from it will have an impact on which type of camera to buy? If you are feeling really rich then you could buy one of each, lots of people do and then you will have the best of both worlds however this is quite an expensive option so if you are new to digital photography why not start with a good quality Compact digital camera and you can work your way up to the more complex Digital SLR camera’s.
